Range Sustainment
Metal salvaging
Recycling metals reduces waste & saves money.

Military preparedness mandates that the military have training ranges where warfighters can conduct live-fire training, as well as testing ranges where they can evaluate the latest equipment and weapon systems. UXB International, Inc. (UXB) offers a variety of products and services to maintain training and testing ranges in a manner that enables the military to safely and effectively prepare personnel while considering environmental impact concerns.

UXB offerings include a green range technology solution for dust control that modifies soils using a naturally occurring biopolymer. These biopolymers are also strengthen soil which can increase slope stability tand reduce erosion. Heavy metals are contained by lowering soil permeability. Our sustainable range product eliminates dependence on petroleum-based materials and leave no lasting impression on the environment.

UXB is also experienced in metal salvage and recycling for both active and inactive bombing and gunnery range targets and vehicles. All metal is assessed, processed, demilitarized, certified, and recycled to government and environmental standards. Recycling can include electronics scrap and aircraft of any size, shape, or class.

Range Residue and Range Clearance

Camp Lejeune, North Carolina

Recycling explosives

UXB's challenge was the removal and demilitarization of over 2 million pounds of range residue from multiple ranges consisting of tanks, vehicles, and munitions from an active installation. Services included certification and salvage of all metals and disposal of all waste. The UXB solution included daily meetings with range control and parallel path operations to allow schedule flexibility. The approach focused on maintaining positive control over the clearance efforts, demilitarized targets, and characterization and disposal of all wastes. UXB safely removed and processed 2,060,000 pounds of range residue and debris; destroyed 328 munitions and explosives of concern; processed unexploded ordnance (UXO) residual material using UXB's proprietary Lightweight Ordnance and Armament Demilitarization System (LOADS®); cut and / or crushed and certified free of explosives all UXO material, rendering it safe and acceptable for recycling.

Operational Range Clearance and Upgrade

Fort AP Hill, Virginia

This range clearance project included UXO and support with investigative work and target demolition, demilitarization, salvage of recoverable metal, and disposal of hazardous waste. UXB provided range construction services as part of this project. Approximately 150 derelict targets consisting of old armor, vehicles, and airplanes were removed and demolished. The challenge on this project was for the team to maintain a very aggressive schedule. This was successfully completed by processing UXO residual material using UXB's LOADS®. Approximately 958 tons of scrap metal were recovered and recycled, with the salvage value used to offset overall project costs; which qualified as credit to benefit the Fort AP Hill Environmental Division recycling goals. At the completion of all work, the site was restored as part of demobilization.
