UXB provides state-of-the-art mine clearance.
Unexploded ordnance (UXO) and landmines are found in every country on earth and in some of the most unexpected places. Landmines can often be found in unmarked areas or can be washed out of marked minefield areas by floods and rivers. Explosive hazards like these will often lie undisturbed for years in remote areas, that can be completely forgotten by the rapidly changing local governments. Often these remote areas are where new pipeline development occurs. This means that oil exploration companies building pipelines and refineries can often find themselves with severe project delays when an explosive hazard is suddenly discovered after the planning stages of the project.

UXB has an unprecedented safety record
in UXO and demining operations.
UXB International, Inc. (UXB) is a world leader in Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and UXO, demining, weapons removal, and explosive risk mitigation services. Whether it is an investigation of an individual minefield or thousands of square kilometers in country demining or UXO clearance, UXB understands that explosive contamination must be responded to in ways unique to the terrain, vegetation, soil, and contamination type for a safe, efficient, and effective outcome. UXB's services are internationally recognized. The Company possesses mechanical assets, fully accredited mine dog teams, and a very capable and experienced, EOD-qualified staff, meeting the requirements of the Department of Defense
Explosives Safety Board as well as International Mine Action Standards.
The primary goal of UXB's demining services is to leave the affected communities with the internal capability and capacity to ensure long-term success eradicating the landmine threat. To achieve that goal, UXB has developed specialized training courses that include landmine awareness and education, technical manuals, hands-on reinforcement training, field training exercises, and formal testing.

Mine detection dog
Although the International Mine Action Community is always searching for new methods to improve mine detection techniques, mine detection dogs (MDDs) remain one of the most reliable and valued tools for technical survey and landmine clearance. MDDs offer a low-cost and flexible demining addition to UXB's demining toolbox that has many advantages when used in conjunction with other methods of operations in post-conflict areas.
UXB has its own in-house MDD Training School which manages the complete spectrum from the breeding program to training new handlers. Our dogs have been accredited for use by host country Mine Action Centers, joining our teams on the ground in places such as Croatia, Afghanistan, and Cambodia.

Afghanistan
Federal Government and Commercial Customers
UXB has been active in Afghanistan since 2002 with experience in delivering large and complex demining and munitions and explosives of concern (MEC) projects throughout the country, including security and logistics. The Company has an excellent working relationship with GTZ operating in hazardous environments around Afghanistan, training local deminers to carry out both Landmine Clearance and also Battle area Clearance to tight budget constraints and strict timelines. UXB is fully accredited and licensed.
On the Bifano Aviation Complex at Kabul International Airport, UXB performed clearance and removal of unexploded ordnance (UXO) and landmines (520,000 m²) using its demining teams, MDD teams, and mechanical assets. Four zones were to be simultaneously cleared to a depth of 1.0 m under a very accelerated schedule. All existing structures and unused ammunition bunkers were to be cleared, removed, and the complete site leveled to enable construction of the main camp and aircraft apron. UXB was responsible for providing all life support services for its staff of over 100 deminers and associated U.S. and Third Country Nationals (TCN) management and support personnel. UXB successfully searched and investigated over 15,000 indications resulting in over 6,500 pieces of MEC being destroyed. During the task no delays to aircraft operations were encountered.
Additionally, UXB has provided Ammunition Management Training for the Afghan National Army, which covered the basic functions of operating in a safe working environment within an explosive storage facility. The training demonstrated safe processes associated with explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) and demilitarization of surplus and unserviceable munitions, including safe ammunition handling, storage, issuance, and maintenance procedures.
Bosnia, Herzegovina, and Serbia
U.S. Agency for International Development / International Trust Fund
UXB Balkans has conducted demining and UXO removal, technical survey, and construction support operations in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 1996. At the height of operations, UXB managed approximately 250 personnel (local and expatriates) and operated on 15 simultaneous sites. During 1996-2000, UXB completed over 4,400 demining / UXO assessments clearing 47,825,000 square meters of land.
UXB performed these tasks using its MDDs, demining teams, and mechanical assets to successfully search, investigate, and clear project areas. These high-level threat tasks included road, cave, riverside, and underwater terrain with each deminer clearing nearly 250 square meters a day. Sites were often remote and miles from basic life support facilities. For these operations, UXB developed a network of supply and logistic bases for conducting logistic and life support management to facilitate a field living environment. This increased productivity and minimized costs.
UXB has consistently supported other agencies, regularly interacting with Bosnia-Herzegovina government officials and Mine Action Center, the U.S. Agency for International Development, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Defense, NATO, United Nations, and European Common Market community. UXB developed and provided Mine Risk Education (MRE) instructional support to USAID staff members and other teaming partners. The Company acquired, trained, and employed a core group of local national workers to augment the expatriate work force. As time progressed, the local staff was integrated into leadership and management roles, and began replacing expatriate personnel. Today, the entire in-country project staff is comprised of local employees, with UXB corporate oversight.
The latest completed project, sponsored by the International Trust Fund, was given high priority due to the close proximity of houses and civilians. Located on the northeast boarder of Bosnia, Herzegovina, and Serbia, UXB cleared over 387,000 square meters of terrain to allow locals to build roads, replace water facilities, and begin agricultural production.
