History of UXB International
UXB International was founded in 1983. The Company bid upon and won a federal contract which became the first successful commercial bid for unexploded ordnance (UXO) disposal in the United States.
UXB's first contract quickly migrated from a simple surface clearance of UXO to a more complex subsurface clearance. The Company responded with new detection technology and the project was a complete success. Thereafter, UXB came to be known as the "First Company." UXB soon became the first company to apply Global Positioning System (GPS) technology with a rudimentary Geographic Information System (GIS) to enable the clean-up of formerly used defense sites. By the mid-1980s UXB broadened its technology and became the first company hired by the U.S. Army to locate, identify, and dispose of chemical warfare material.
By 1993, UXB's unique solutions had grown to include remote controlled machines for removing landmines, digital landmine detectors with integrated GPS mapping, and other innovative technologies and processes. UXB's innovative approaches led the company to a Joint Venture with a consulting engineering company and it won the largest UXO contract ever awarded. The same year, UXB established its first international subsidiary and began performing demining activities throughout the Balkans.
The corporate headquarters for UXB International moved from Ashburn, Virginia, in 2005 and relocated in the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center in Blacksburg, Virginia. Today, the company continues to grow its list of "First Company" achievements and continues on its quest to as a caretaker for our planet.
