Construction Services

Construction of steel decking support
columns for 40' living containers
For almost 30 years, UXB International, Inc. (UXB) has accomplished many projects which have required a wide variety of construction services. These services range from simple horizontal land survey in support of range clearance, to unexploded ordnance (UXO) avoidance escort during site investigation, to comprehensive design/build efforts for vertical construction such as at our demilitarization facilities. Although UXB specializes in military-related construction that usually involves highly hazardous locations or processes, the company is also experienced in more conventional construction. UXB has provided construction services worldwide and our experience with both homeland and foreign governments equips us to serve needs in diverse settings.
Construction services include:
- Site Survey (including UXO survey / investigation, avoidance, and remediation)
- Project Management
- Design (including explosive facility safety standards/siting; explosive safety site plans and submissions; work plans, chemical safety submissions, and UXO clearance plans)
- Procurement
- Construction Management
Life Support Area, Runway Extension Project
Bagram Air Force Base, Afghanistan
UXB provided design / build services of the Life Support Area (LSA) for demining operations support at the U.S. military Bagram Air Field facility. Modular, prefabricated units were sourced locally which enabled rapid construction of re-locatable facilities. This approach maximized local labor content, minimized the number of local personnel who had to enter the secure area of the base, and will allow for the mobility of housing units to other locations if necessary once this project is completed. UXB coordinated approval of the engineering designs and provided construction management services to oversee construction, which was performed by a combination of local, third country national, and U.S. construction companies. In addition, UXB provided construction quality control to ensure work was performed to U.S. standards and in accordance with applicable military installation guidelines. Additionally, UXB conducted demining and clearance operations of Munitions and Explosives of Concern (MEC) and Material Potentially Presenting an Explosive Hazard (MPPEH).
The "base camp" included 32 wet and 113 dry modular housing units, 6 modular shower/toilet units, a 6-washer/dryer station, a laundry facility, a 300+ person-capacity dining facility, motor pool maintenance facility, a warehouse, roads and parking areas, entry control point, perimeter security fence, area lighting, water, sewer, communications, electric utilities, direct and indirect fire force protection measures, and a mine detection dog kennel with capacity for 10.
Design / Build Services, Chemical Weapons Demilitarization Facility
Anniston Chemical Agent Disposal Facility, Anniston, Alabama
UXB provided the advanced-technology system and construction services needed for the development of a Static Detonation Chamber (SDC) facility for the disposal of chemical weapons stockpile at Anniston Chemical Agent Disposal Facility. UXB provided design, fabrication, inspection, installation, and testing of the transportable, modular system with supporting infrastructure that included a 7,000-square-foot building with electrical and emergency power supply, compressed air system, and specialized ventilation systems.

Construction Support and Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Activities
Bosnia-Herzegovina
UXB conducted demining and UXO removal, technical survey, and construction support operations in support of a project sponsored by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). In 1996, the infrastructure of Bosnia-Herzegovina was severely damaged by shelling, burning, bombing, mining, sabotaging, booby traps, and looting. UXB's services were necessary to promote a safe working environment for companies rebuilding the infrastructure of this war-torn country. UXO sites were often remote and miles from basic life support facilities. For these operations, UXB developed a network of supply and logistic bases for conducting logistic and life support management to facilitate a field living environment.
Design / Build Services, Static Detonation Chamber for Legacy Munitions
Kinmen Island, Taiwan, Republic of China (ROC)
UXB was contracted to locate and access non-DOD waste ammunition that was sealed in cement in underground tunnels. UXB cleared an inactive military range for the construction of a four-acre facility for a full-scale demilitarization plant. UXB's design / build services included site design, plant design, permit writing, construction, testing, demonstration of environmental acceptability, systemization, and sustained operation.
Design / Build Services, Mélange Neutralization Project
Baku, Azerbaijan
UXB designed, built, and operated a mobile mélange treatment plant which converted 1,350 metric tons of mélange (rocket fuel) into a non-hazardous, low-grade fertilizer. UXB developed the process and designed the equipment as modular and relocatable. UXB transported the equipment to the client, erected the equipment, tied in local water and electric utilities, and installed interface tank and piping to existing, leaking storage tanks.
